Well, he only really respects those that're older than him and those he views as stronger. He views himself as equal to Byakuya and the way he talks to Toshiro with only his name also seems like he views him as his equal. With Ukitake he clearly respects him and views him as wiser than him and possibly stronger. I think it's also about respecting back or the way they act. Like the way they were acting when Ichigo was using the Hiyori training thing it looks like a few of them were never really high ranking in SS except the dude with white hair.

I find it quite ironic that the Hollow is a parallel to old man Zangetsu. Ichigo first had to accept his Zanpakuto to hear Zangetsu and trust Zangetsu to utilize his powers. This time Ichigo had to first accept that he had a hollow and now he has to accept the new Zangetsu in order to be in full control and utilize the hollow powers.

One of the greatest foreshadowing lmao. His inner hollow is literally the true Zangetsu yet Ichigo ain’t believing it.
